Universities, Organizations and Institutions

Your reputation rests on the success of your members, students, and staff. So it’s vital that you offer the education and up-to-date insight they need to grow professionally. That’s where I step in.

I partner with leading universities, professional organizations, government agencies, and institutions nationwide to present powerful career advancement workshops along with information-packed half-day or two-day boot camps. I also collaborate with clients in or near Chapel Hill, North Carolina to offer in-depth semester-long career management series. One-on-one on-site career counseling sessions may also be arranged to accompany extended engagements in full-day blocks comprised of 30- to 60-minute individual sessions.

Each workshop is customized to suit your organization and address pressing career topics, with language and terminology appropriate to each unique audience – from postdocs and academics to business associates, managers, and executives. Provide the expert guidance they need to build and benefit from their professional network, determine their ideal career path, smoothly navigate career transitions, and master salary negotiation skills. I work individually with each organization to design an agenda that’s right for their audience demographic.

I’ve worked as a clinically trained counselor since 2001 and am a sought-after speaker at leading universities and organizations including Duke University, National Postdoctoral Association, Université de Sherbrooke, NIEHS, North Carolina State University, Moffitt Cancer Center, and the EPA. I hold a MSEd in Counseling and am a Licensed Professional Counselor.

Lets collaborate to design a program that’s perfectly suited for your organization. Contact me today to learn more.

Testimonials

This was an amazing workshop. I liked the spirit, the honesty and the examples from real life, plus showing us how to network the right way. I learned the importance of keeping in touch with others and that networking might take time, but has great benefit.
Graduate Student, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
I really enjoyed your workshops on networking and using an IDP. As a trainer, I really appreciated your down-to-earth delivery and the real-world applications of your suggestions.
MRH, 2015 NIEHS Biomedical Career Symposium participant
This was by far the most interesting and helpful RCR workshop that I’ve attended. It was applicable to anyone whereas many workshops that I see advertised seem to have a relatively narrow focus.
Graduate Student (Humanities & Social Science), Duke University
I want to express my sincere appreciation for the time you spent in giving the “Transferable Skills” seminar at Duke today. I learned so many valuable things from your presentation. I do not think I would have caught the flaws—the detailed, technical description of my research experience and the lack of incorporating soft skills in describing those experience—in my resume. You provided very helpful advice, and I am looking forward to attending other upcoming seminars provided by you.
Postdoc, Duke University
Dara’s seminars have been invaluable opportunities and critical leaning experiences. She is an excellent speaker and educator on career counseling and professional development topics.
Former NIEHS Fellow, current Field Application Specialist
I really appreciated your workshop on networking this weekend. I’m new to the networking scene and have been unsure on how to approach it, especially as I venture into new fields. The workshop was very helpful and I am looking forward to testing out my new skills!
Postdoctoral Fellow, North Carolina State University
Dara has facilitated in improving my interviewing and interpersonal skills, which helped me become more competitive in the job market.
Former Postdoc, Current Medical Writer
I was an attendee at your workshop on networking at the NIEHS Biomedical Career Symposium last week. You helped me feel more confident in my understanding of how to be successful at networking and now I feel confident enough to get out and start developing this important skill! Thank you!
PhD candidate, Wake Forest University
I wanted to tell you that I just networked myself into an amazing new position. Your workshop really did help and so you certainly get a little bit of the credit for my new job.
Former Postdoctoral Scholar, current Medical Science Liaison
Not only is Dara extremely knowledgeable about the subject matter she presents, she goes above and beyond to ensure that she is also knowledgeable about who her audience will be. This results in a workshop that feels individualized and personalized for each participant, even though the presentation itself is to a whole group.
Director, Office of Training & Academic Services, Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute
